I didn't quit blogging, it just happened that six months or so has passed in which I haven't written. I don't know how that happened, but it wasn't a conscious decision and I'm not happy about it.
I never understood why people write those "Taking a break!" posts when they go away for a couple of weeks, but now I get it because sometimes people get concerned when their Internet friendishes stop writing for a while.
So, I'm here and everything's fine.
Nana is still kicking at 104. And by kicking, I mean breathing.
Juanita (of "Hide Juanita" fame) is old but holding it together. Foxy is fantastic. We lost Zooey (the wig wearing, revenge-pooper) in December to cancer, which is normally something I would write about, but I can't seem to do it quite yet.
I hope to be back soon. Maybe a little differently, I don't know.
In the meantime, please enjoy my lovely sidebar friends. And you can always friend me on Facebook, I'm still around there.

YAY STEAMPERSON!
I have absolutely loved every second of your blog-you are one of my favorite writers ever and ever
Thanks for the update post, and I hope you are inspired to make many more!
love, gweenbrick
I found you while checking out special bloggers on google (thinking of making a google blog ie). You made me laugh out loud many times - a big ask but you did it. You are one very clever, switched on funny woman. When twitter finally unkinks its site, I'm gonna tell more people about you. Unfortunately I only have around 300+ followers but none among them are bots (Twitter's getting it's s... act together except for not being accessible for hours today).
I'll happily read your archives & hope the muse sings in your ear and brain once again. Bring out the ebook & I'll tweet that too.
Glad you hear you are well...or at least not horrible...or at least alive. Whatever it is. Yer all right in my book, even if you never write another word! Or at least you would be if I could ever muster the gumption to write a book. Not really sure what gumption is but I know its one of the few things I have trouble mustering. Be well :)
Steamy, I think that a number of your posts are so funny I almost can't handle them. I'm grateful for them, and for the fact that I found you through Hyperbole and a Half.
Good luck! Stay well!
Yay! (Sorry you're not happy about not writing.) Yay. You're alive, and you may have more to say some day...though different. Yay!
Thank you for sharing your blog!
I can't wait, your posts are always so well done
We love you and want you to be happy and healthy first. Then we want more of your humor, even if it's different. You rock!
Its ok, a lot of famous authors slowed down after a man came and fixed the leaky gas pipes in their basement. Everyone has their muse.
(sigh of relief)
You, my dear girl, are an absolute gem.
I only relatively recently discovered your amazing blog and have spent many a workday lunchtime (and by lunchtime I of course mean any time of day I feel I can get away with having images of dead wasps, dicks and whorishly photoshopped nanas on full display).
I am currently up to July 2010. Reading in reverse chrono order of course to ensure I get as many of your earlier referenced gags and stories as possible.
I bloody love it all but am already getting a slightly sad vibe knowing that there's only another 45 or so posts to enjoy.
I do hope all is well in your world and that we'll see some new posts one day soon because THIS world needs more people like you and more honest and hilarious reads like yours.....and selfishly 45 posts may only make my job bearable for another couple of weeks.
PS. What's with the redirect to .com.au? Did you move to Australia? Or is that just me being hopeful that us Aussies can feel a tiny bit closer to you?
I is missing you and am willing to play backelship with you if it would help =)
See ya soon friend~
Oh thank the sweet Baby Jesus! We were so worried. Well, I wasn't but my dog Mudge said you were "a ne'r do well" and a "nincompoop." I told him to take it back and right now we're not on speaking terms. I hope you're writing a book or practicing for Skeet Shooting With The Stars so we can prove him wrong.
AH! Here you are! Whew! Just when I was starting to break out in hives from nervousness. The thought of the world without your posts makes me feel a little queasy. Well, you know what? You just take all the time you need. There are good herbal remedies nowadays for hives and such and I'm not above gargling with chunks of raw garlic. Anywho, we'll all be here when you're ready to unveil your latest cat/family photo/reproductive organ montage. Or just a mundane account of typical day. Doesn't matter. I'll beeeee riiiiiight heeeeeere *holds creepy elongated glowing finger to your forehead*.
How about this weather we've been having, huh?
If you stop writing forever I will find you and kick your (farty) ass. You make the internet a better place for every loser, like myself, who has it instead of friends. Take a break, do something stupid like yoga, take whatever drugs you need to do to find the magic, then come back and write about it so I can read it and laugh till I snort milk out of my nose. THIS IS THE INTERNET YOU OWE US FREE STUFF TO MAKE OUR LIVES WORTH LIVING
SOOOO happy to hear this :)
You should set a goal for us.. don't post until you have 3,000 members. That'll show us for expecting you to amuse us all day and give nothing back. amirite?!
Thanks for the update!
Tara
The world will rejoice when you return. :)
So sorry to hear about Zooey. She seemed like a terrific dog, despite the explosive diarrhoea.
Come back...we need your posts.
Hope to see you back soon!!
Lazy git.
I've been in your shoes and understand how difficult it can be to unslump yourself. Sometimes I turn to friends for answers, other times, to the bottom of a bottle. But sometimes, just sometimes, I turn to a doctor.
Dr. Suess, to be specific. Here's a lovely rendition I found on this thing called the youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQRWeZy-S8Q
I hope it helps. Especially because it's read by a man who played a very convincing serial killer.
Whew, I thought it might have been the carbon monoxide after all...oh wait, the furnace is now off
I've found this blog after Becky's "hiatus" began. Has she moved her blog to another website or should I still be checking here?
None more heat air!
No posts make baby bunnies cry.
Went to The Sound of Music last weekend...imagine my disappointment when I discovered NO LASER BEAMS from boobies. Hope you are up to writing soon...miss you.
S'posed to git rull hot t'morow!
Pleeease come back already, we miss you ):
I 100% support your hiatus. I feel like I've had some seriously weird moments of "what the crap am I doing here anyway?" over at my blog. I've wanted to talk to you about blogging for a long time, but every time I try it feels weird and I can't find a way to start the dialogue without sounding idiotic. And then things evolve and shift and stuff gets weird and then I out myself and it goes viral and I'm like WHAT JUST HAPPENED? and then the universe wants to use my blog as a forum discussing sexuality, and then I write a post about my daughter taking her diaper off and running around the house like a feral cat.
That's how blogging works, apparently.
Looking forward to the next phase, whenever it feels right.
Come on back, baby. I'll be good to you!
Take as much time as you need steamy (as if you needed me or anyone else to say that haha) We love you! Well i do anyways. Gonna occupy myself by rereading the entire post catalogue of yours :)
Mmmm.... crack
Miss you. <3
It's been a year! A YEAR!!!
Still missing you, steamy! Go check out Kevin Smith's SmodCast network, you'd fit right in (Think Tell'em Steamy-Dave). If you need a wing man to steam up your pod, say the word and I'll demo my primo shnit disturbing skills...
Found your blog today...you are genius. Read every post. Screw 'meals' and 'dishes' and 'hygiene.' Back off, 'family.' Please come back, Kid. Or don't...I understand. I can just re-read. I don't need pretty, glittery new words. Also, I may or may not cry (again) when I get to the end (again).
Baby come back, any kind of fool could see
There was something in everything about you
Baby come back, you can blame it all on me
I was wrong, and I just can't live without you
I was not thankful that you haven't posted for over a year. My Turkey day could have been so much better with a new post!
Merry Christmas, you lazy quitter!
Just discovered this blog and was thoroughly amused. Sad to see its been almost a year since your last post.
Alright, lazy-bones, it's 2013 now. Get to work!!!
I'm not giving up on you!
I love you and want you back!
Now that you've gotten over your St Paddy's day hangover, it's time to start posting again. C'mon!
I know I don't know you or anything...but I miss you!
You may be the funniest person who has ever lived -- past, present or future!
Yeah come on already! ;( I can't handle it anymore!!!!
Really hope you're doing okay. Even though I've read your blog archive a bunch of times, and it's been like five years, and you're probably not coming back, and I don't actually know you at all -- I just want to say that I really, really hope that you're good.
What perkins said (times 1000). I still check just in case...
I miss you and your blog a lot. I don't know what's happened to you or if you're ok but I keep checking in every once in a while hoping you made a new post. Please, if you're reading this, let us know you're ok!! We all love you and miss you :'(
6 years later, we still miss you. If you're over blogging, we get that. A little goodbye would be nice though. All our love. <3 <3
I'm probably going to post a comment here every year for the rest of my life.
Like The Lost Prince I'm also still stopping by from time to time. Hope you're ok. Miss your writing.
I found your blog while I was in college, deeply depressed, and pretty unwell. Eight years later, I'm finishing up a PhD, living a good life, and still checking back in every now and then, because even in my darkest moments, your writing always brought me genuine joy. Love you lots, Steamy, and hope you're doing well.
Not much happening but I live in hope. As a sign of faith, I've subscribed via my RSS feed
I don't know what made me think about you today, but I did. And then there was this terrified thought: "What if all those posts never get archived!? What will I show my daughter when she's finally over her youthful enthusiasm and finally 'Get's It...'?"
Anyway... I hope you're well. I hope there's half of the joy your writing brought to me (And many others, I'm sure) during a darker time.
I also hope you know you did that for so many of us.
You were the Beckie-est-est.
Whoops. Almost forgot to leave a comment every year for the rest of my life. My bad.
As creepy and bizarre as it is, I'm feeling so much better about not being the only one to come back here 10 years later to laugh again, remember my life when I was reading this stuff for the first time, and hold out hope that there will be a bread crumb trail as to what Becky is up to now.
(If I were her, I would be very weirded out that I lived in so many people's heads. Maybe that's why she put the magic away.)
Wherever you are - all good things to you.
Sincerely,
A totally normal person, I promise
Another year down. Thank you, Robyn, for the reminder. I will be coming back every year until I die. Better come back, Becky; or your annual notifications will begin to clutter your inbox. ;)
